We offer a curated list of holidays and special events, "This Week in History" highlights, and engaging writing prompts, all thoughtfully designed to enrich your lesson plans and captivate the young minds you nurture.


Holidays/Special Events:

August 21 - World Senior Citizen's Day

World Senior Citizen's Day is a day to honor and appreciate the elderly in our communities. In the classroom, students can write letters or cards to seniors in local nursing homes or learn about the history and contributions of senior citizens.

August 22 - Be an Angel Day

Be an Angel Day encourages acts of kindness and helping others. In the classroom, students can brainstorm and execute small acts of kindness for their classmates, teachers, or community members.

August 23 - International Day for the Remembrance of the Slave Trade and its Abolition

This day commemorates the abolition of the transatlantic slave trade. In the classroom, teachers can discuss the history of slavery, its abolition, and the importance of respecting all cultures and backgrounds.

August 24 - National Waffle Day

National Waffle Day celebrates this delicious breakfast food. In the classroom, students can learn about the history of waffles and even have a waffle-making activity or a waffle-themed math lesson.

August 25 - National Park Service Founders Day

Founders Day celebrates the establishment of the National Park Service. In the classroom, students can learn about the national parks, their history, and the importance of preserving natural landscapes.


This Week in History

August 21, 1961 - The Mona Lisa is Unveiled in the United States

The Mona Lisa, painted by Leonardo da Vinci, was displayed in the United States for the first time at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. This event marked a significant moment in art history.

August 22, 1902 - Theodore Roosevelt Becomes Vice President

On this day, Theodore Roosevelt became Vice President of the United States. He later became the 26th President and was known for his conservation efforts and the "Square Deal."

August 23, 1305 - William Wallace's Execution

William Wallace, a Scottish knight and leader in the First War of Scottish Independence, was executed in London. His story was popularized in the movie "Braveheart."

August 24, 79 AD - Mount Vesuvius Erupts

Mount Vesuvius erupted, burying the ancient Roman cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum under volcanic ash. This event provides insights into ancient Roman life.

August 25, 1916 - U.S. National Park Service Established

President Woodrow Wilson signed the Organic Act, creating the National Park Service. This agency manages and preserves the country's national parks.
