A Champion Who Didn't Give Up

In the world of sports, there are many stories of athletes who achieve great success after years of hard work and dedication. However, there are also stories of athletes who face setbacks and disappointment but refused to give up.

Sonja Henie is a perfect example of an athlete who persevered after her first setback. Let's discuss her journey to becoming one of the most successful figure skaters in history!

The First Winter Olympics

Sonia Henie first competed in the Winter Olympics in 1928, when she was just 11 years old. However, she did not win any medals at that event. In fact, she finished in fourth place overall.

Despite this early setback, Henie continued to train and improve her skills. She knew that she could do better and was determined to win a medal at the next Winter Olympics.

Sonia's Second Winter Olympics

Henie's hard work paid off at the next Winter Olympics in 1932. She won gold medals in both the singles and team events, making her one of the youngest athletes ever to win an Olympic gold medal.

After this successful outing, Henie went on to become one of the most famous figure skaters in the world. She won numerous medals in international competitions and even starred in a few Hollywood movies.

Sonja Henie's Legacy

Henie's story is an inspiration to all athletes who face setbacks early on in their careers. Despite not winning at her first Olympics event, she persevered and eventually became one of the most successful athletes in history.

Her story teaches us that it is never too late to achieve our goals and dreams.

So what's your dream? What goals have you set for yourself in 2022?

Perhaps you have summer business goals or dreams of starting a new hobby. Perhaps your personal health is a focus. Whatever the dream, goal-setting is how we turn aspirations into action steps!

But, our first priority in any objective is ensuring that God is at the heart of it.

Is it consistent with my Christian beliefs? Is it developing me in the fruit of the Spirit? Is it drawing me closer to Jesus? Is it revealing the love of God in my life to others?

Every time you sit down to write new goals, keep these Bible verses on goal setting handy so your eyes will stay fixed on what is always most important:

  • “But as for you, be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded.” - 2 Chronicles 15:7

  • “May he give you the desire of your heart and make all your plans succeed.” - Psalm 20:4

  • “Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed.” -Proverbs 15:22

  • “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.” - Proverbs 16:3

  • “Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it?” - Luke 14:28

Don't give up on your dreams! Continue to pursue them with all of your heart and you will be successful. Thanks for reading!
